Vic man fined for illegal wage deductions

Australian Associated Press, October 24:
A Melbourne businessman with a lengthy history of complaints over illegally deducting staff wages has been fined for “appalling” conduct.
Travice Blom has been penalised almost $15,000 for unlawfully deducting $130,000 from the wages of 102 Melbourne cleaners at Oz Staff Career Services and falsifying records to cover it up, the Fair Work Ombudsman said in a statement on Monday.
Judge Philip Burchardt said Blom had a history of complaints about staff wage deductions dating back to 2006 and labelled his conduct “appalling” and “objectionable”.
Former Oz Staff Career Services human resources manager Alex Linossi was penalised almost $10,000 for his role in facilitating the deductions.
