Fair Work fines cleaning contractor $144k for underpaying casual workers

The Australian, September 25, 2018 (EXTRACT)

A cleaning contractor with a “history of non compliance” has been penalised $144,000 for underpaying three casual workers more than $10,000.

The Federal Circuit Court ordered David Leslie Hinchcliffe pay $25,000 and his company Davdot pay $119,000 for underpaying the trio, two of whom were migrant workers.

The three employees performed cleaning duties at hotels at which Davdot Facilities Services held cleaning contracts. Davdot admitted to underpaying them a total of $10,428 between October 2015 and August 2016.

The underpayments occurred despite the Fair Work Ombudsman previously conducting investigations involving Mr Hinchliffe and his company from 2011.
