Hinch’s ABCC Xmas present

The Australian, November 23, 2016 EXTRACT:

Crossbench Senator Derryn Hinch has buoyed government hopes that it will be able to strike a deal for the passage of its legislation to revive the Australian Building and Construction Commission by the end of next week — likening it to a “Christmas present” for Malcolm Turnbull.

Senator Hinch also confirmed expectations that he would combine forces in the upper house with Nick Xenophon’s Senate team to form a so-called “gang-of four” and warned that, by working as a bloc, it could also punish the government on other fronts if it failed to honour commitments to the crossbench.

Senator Hinch said he had a “few amendments” before Employment Minister Michaelia Cash in relation to the ABCC — including extra measures to provide protection to subcontractors — and confirmed that if these changes were accepted then he would back in the ABCC bill.
